The following activities have been planned to implement considering to-achieve the set objectives and expected outputs:

a) Conducting participatory assessment:

The senior staffs will prepare participatory needs assessment formats considering the required information and provide orientation to the staffs and the staffs will conduct participatory assessment in the working villages. From the participatory assessment the actual stakeholders, problems, situation, needs etc. will be identified and enlisted for participating and including with the program.

b) Mass awareness raising on disaster preparedness and management:

The staffs and the volunteers/group cadres will educate and aware the community people continuously and they will use different charts, flip charts, posters during motivation and awareness raising. Apart from these, through group meetings, arranging gatherings, and workshop-seminars, documentary film shows, folksongs and popular theatres on disaster preparedness and management etc. they will educate and motivate the community people, by which the community people will be aware and technical to save them from different disasters and cope boldly all kinds of disasters, which will reduce the risk and also losses and damages from disasters.

c) Staff Capacity building training:

For capacity building of the staffs, volunteers and group cadres, different training courses will be arranged on disaster preparedness and management, so, they will be capable and they will provide training to the beneficiaries and make them capable to handle the disasters boldly and all the community people will be aware and technical to cope with the disasters and reduce risks, losses and damages from disasters. The training courses will be as follows:

  • Staff training on Disaster Preparedness and Management (DP&M) with livelihood options for 5 days.
  • Monthly staff coordination meetings.

d) Training/Meetings/gatherings/Workshop/seminars on Disaster Preparedness & Management:

For mass awareness raising, capacity building, information dissemination, and also involvement of different levels of people like elite, teachers, leaders, religious leaders, Union Parishad members, CBO personnel, NGO personnel etc. and Upazilla personnel, different seminars, workshops, sharing meetings and discussion meetings on disaster preparedness and management will be arranged as per plan and ensured the participation of the stakeholders, which will make them aware about the disaster preparedness and management and they will educate the community people, which will reduce disaster risks, losses and damages and it will also enhance the national disaster management policy and those are as follows:

  • Health and hygienic motivation workshop for one day for 50 groups in 36 villages and each group will be included 25 persons.
  • Orientation to beneficiaries on Eco-toilet/toilet management and use for one day for 8 groups in 36 villages and each group will be included 25 participants.
  • Orientation to beneficiaries on use of safe water for one day for 50 groups in 36 villages and each group will be included 25 participants.

e) Community Volunteers and Group Cadre development:

A total of 300 community volunteers and 300 group cadres will be made capable through providing different training courses on disaster preparedness and management, by which they can educate and aware the community people thoroughly in their own villages.

f) IEC/BCC materials displaying and development:

For mass awareness raising, different IEC/BCC materials on disaster preparedness and management will be collected from related institutions and displayed in the working areas for mass awareness raising. The organisation will also develop different related IEC/BCC materials and displayed in the working areas, which will create mass awareness among the community people, and they could be able to take early preparation and save them from different disasters through capable coping with the disasters and reduce risk, losses, and damages.

g) Public Health Promotion and Awareness and Social Mobilization through CHVs (Community Health Volunteers):

The community health volunteers will be trained up and they will be utilized to aware and mobilize the community people. The CHVs will educate and aware the community people continuously and they will use different charts, flip charts, posters during motivation and awareness raising. Apart from these, through group meetings, arranging gatherings, and workshop-seminars, documentary film shows, folksongs and popular theatres on community health, WatSan, disaster preparedness and management etc. they will educate and motivate the community people and help them to mobilize, by which the community people will be aware and technical to save them from different disasters, health hazards and cope boldly all kinds of disasters, which will reduce the risk and also losses and damages from disasters. In this regard, the following items will be arranged:

  • Organise health sessions in 36 villages with 5000 participants.
  • Arrange awareness raising on health in 36 villages.
  • Arrange and distribute sanitary and hygienic kit boxes among 500 families.

h) Disaster Risks Reduction Supports for beneficiaries:

IDO will provide disaster risks reduction supports to the beneficiaries earlier to reduction different disaster risks among the community people with the awareness raising and capacity building, which will improve the economic conditions, improve houses, improve safe water supply and sanitation facilities and those activities will be as follows:

  • Sanitary Latrine installation household levels for 200 families in 36 villages, which will be above water levels to make safe from the water logging.
  • Latrine repairing at household levels for 200 families in 36 villages, which will be upraised through earth raising above water levels to make safe from the water logging.
  • Installation of sanitary latrines at institutions/community levels. A total of 25 latrines will be installed in 25 institutions and community places, which will be upraised and made above flood level or water levels, which will be used by the community people, students and also used during flood time.
  • Eco-toilet installation at household levels for 50 families as demonstration, which will be followed by others and which will improve the total environmental conditions in the projected villages.
  • Rain water harvesting system development at household levels and a total of 50 rain water harvesting systems will be developed as demonstrations in 39 villages, which will be followed by others and it will reduce the risks of arsenic in the project areas.
  • Rain water harvesting system development at village/community levels and a total of 20 rain water harvesting systems will be developed as demonstrations at 20 villages, which will be followed by others and it will reduce the risks of arsenic in the project areas.
  • Pond sand filter (PSF) will be dug at village/community level for ensuring the supply of surface water among the public. A total of 10 PSFs will be dug as demonstrations, which will be followed by others and it will reduce the risks of arsenic in the project areas.

i) Documentation and displaying:

Different workshop reports, seminar reports, meeting resolutions, gathering resolutions etc. and different reports like monitoring, evaluation, progress reports will be prepared and displayed among the different stakeholders and different official for information and action, so, the related stakeholders and people will be aware and they will help other community people to take early preparation, which will reduce disaster risks, losses and damages and also help the national policy making for disaster preparation and mitigation.

j) IEC materials development and displaying:

Different kinds of IEC (Information, Education and Communication)/BCC (Behaviour Change Communication) materials will be developed on different respects like disaster preparedness and management, Eco-toilets, PSF, sanitary latrines, rain water harvesting etc. and those materials will be displayed in important places of the villages and also the staffs will use those materials during motivation and education.

k) Boat installation for quick transportation:

In flood season, it is difficult to take shelter in high places and shelters due to flood water, so, under this project each village will be provided one boat, by which the poor people can take shelter in the shelter places and upraised places, which will save their losses and damages and also risks from disasters.
